María Gómez

María Gómez (b. 1953, Salamanca) is a Spanish painter based in Madrid. She trained at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios de Salamanca, the Escola de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi in Barcelona, and the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, later studying engraving in Paris under Bruno Müller on a French government grant and spending a sabbatical year at the Real Academia de España in Rome. Gómez's solo exhibitions include Galería Marta Cervera, Madrid (2021); Centro de Arte Faro Cabo Mayor, Santander (2022); Galería Félix Gómez, Sevilla (2016, 2012, 1998); Galería Utopía Parkway, Madrid (2015); Galería Amador de los Ríos, Madrid (2011); Galería Antonio Machón, Madrid (2003, 2000, 1996, 1994); and the Museo de Salamanca (2004). Her work has also appeared in group exhibitions at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, Madrid; MUSAC, León; the Sprengel Museum, Hannover; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; and The Queens Museum, New York, and she has shown repeatedly at ARCO Madrid since the 1980s.
