Mike Cloud

Mike Cloud is a Chicago-based artist whose work examines the conditions of painting in its contemporary life among countless reproductions, symbols, and descriptions. He earned his MFA from Yale University (2003) after studying at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Recent exhibitions include solo and group presentations at MoMA PS1, New York; Marianne Boesky Gallery, New York; White Columns, New York; Max Protetch, New York; Apexart, New York; the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York (Frequency); and Honor Fraser Gallery, Los Angeles.

Cloud received the inaugural Chiaro Award from the Headlands Center for the Arts, California, and a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, and has held residencies at the Marres Centre for Contemporary Culture, Maastricht, and the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program, New York. His work is featured in Painting Abstraction by Bob Nickas, published by Phaidon Press (2009). Cloud is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
